Freya's Hens    Freya's Hens
Because of their phenomenal beauty, butterflies are often referred to as "Freya's Hens". The Goddess is seen here overlooking Midgard (Earth) surrounded by butterflies, and garlanded with flowers.
Goddess and an Axe Goddess and an Axe
Even while bathing in a secluded pond created by a tumbling waterfall, the Goddess Freya is not without weapons. In this case, a rather lethal looking battleaxe.
Freya and her Falcon Cloak Freya and her Falcon Cloak
The Goddess has a magical cloak of feathers that allows her to change her shape into that of a falcon and fly like a bird. The other Gods and Goddesses, notably Loki, borrow her cloak when they need to fly swiftly.
Freya vs. the Frost Giant Freya vs. the Frost Giant
Goddess Freya casting an enchantment on the rampaging Frost Giant Angard. The story illustrated here is told in The Goddess and the Hammer of Thor.
Goddess Freya Wielding a Spear Goddess Freya Wielding a Spear
It can sometimes be difficult to resolve the disparate natures of the Goddess Freya. She is a fierce warrior and leads the Valkyries, and yet is also the Goddess of Love and Beauty. A lusty Goddess of Fertility, the Lady is not a being to be trifled with.
Goddess Freya posing in a cloak Goddess Freya Posing in a Cloak
Composited together, here is an image representing the Goddess Freya wearing a fancy cloak. The surreal background and mound of gold place her in Asgard. Of course, she's wearing Brisingamen - here shown as a large, magical, single diamond. No weapons, so this image shows the Goddess in her aspects favoring Love and Beauty.
Goddess Freya Stalking Through the Snow Goddess Freya Stalking Through the Snow
Being a Goddess of the North, the Lady Freya is pretty much immune to cold. Shown here with just a fur cloak and boots, the Goddess looks to be hunting for something. Or perhaps someone?
Cloak and Sword Cloak and Sword
As a Goddess of Love, the Lady sometimes seems to be a Goddess of Lust. Her succulent flesh has ripened to perfection. Here, Goddess Freya displays her bountiful charms, while wearing a sword to remind us of her other aspects, lest we forget.
The Goddess Posing The Goddess Posing
The most common portrayal of the Goddess Freya is as a surpassingly lovely blonde woman who is either nude or clad in jewelry. Earlier artwork portrays the Lady as 'full-bodied', that is, a large, well-fed woman of generous proportions, that being the standard of beauty at the time. This web site tends to artwork showing the Lady Freya as an impossibly slender, athletic young lady with large breasts, reflecting current trends.

In truth, the Lady is the Goddess of Beauty - desirable and perfect in her form and personality. If you have great good fortune, you'll see her for yourself.
Goddess of War Goddess of War
Here's an image of the Goddess Freya riding to war in her cat-drawn chariot. She's wielding a magical flaming sword here, and is clearly a Goddess to be feared in battle.

Obviously, she's not much for pinchy, itchy armor...
